That fact that I am Parky Bill doesn't even enter the equation. I should be stopped and the sooner the better. I studied the document and it looks very interesting and well presented.

Just a couple of points that you may consider adding to the description:
1) The description could be improved by putting emphasis on the correlation between biomechanics measures and internal brain processes revealed by EEG and/or fMRI, for instance. This would enhance the relation of the external behavior with the actual source signals in the brain.

2) A form of biomechanics has been already used in psycho-kinetic studies, especially in the area of driver’s response. The description may relate and refer to such attempts.

In terms now of our capabilities, as Technical University of Crete, we may provide the following expertise:
Extraction of measures for motion categorization from video analysis
Isolation of brain sources (as in Brain-computer Interface (BCI) systems) through independent component analysis or principal component analysis. Furthermore, localization of the brain sources as dipoles in the brain map (source localization methods).
Correlation of biomechanical measures with measures from electrophysiological sources (e.g. EEG) and/or imaging modalities (e.g. fMRI)

Re: Protected: NeuroMech Project Outline

Alberto

thanks for coming back to me and giving the chance for me to clarify.

Our other project is Parkinsons Disease but for this new project we're thinking of extending the research to all types of neurological disease, and particularly Alzheimer's.

Personally, I need leadership from clinicians and scientists as well, because I'm a simple business man not understanding any of the issues.

However we think there is an opportunity to use biomechanics to create a new type of diagnosis and measurement capability which will prove valuable to neurologists.

The world seems to acknowledge the need for a better technology than those currently available and the development of such a technology seems an attractive target for FP7 Research.

If that makes any sense to you I'll be really pleased to get your help with adding detail to the picture.
Re: Protected: NeuroMech Project Outline

Alberto Redolfi says:

Considering that our experiences and expertises are mainly in Alzheimer's disease, and those in Parkinson's disease are completly void, if it is not plan to follow patients with Alzheimer's, in that case, the project does not marry with our primary research interests and, therefore, we could decide to get out from neuromech.

Looking forward receiving some additional clarifications on this matter,
Best regards,
Alberto.

Re: Protected: NeuroMech Project Outline

Rutger Zietsma says

The people at Lancaster would be extremely good with cell biology and in-depth analysis of neurophysiology; people in Plymouth and Crete would be very strong
partners for signal processing. We may need someone in between, who
understands the more high level neurophysiology (e.g. emg/eeg patterns
and knowledge on changes in nervous system with development of
diseases). Perhaps the Italians take this role? The UMCG may fit in,
but they are more on the clinical side. The people at Strathclyde with
who I did my phd may be useful partners, who can provide a lot of
knowledge/expertise on emg/eeg etc. Including
their ideas could be useful. You can find an overview of prof Conway's
expertise here:
http://www.strath.ac.uk/bioeng...
Re: Protected: NeuroMech Project Outline

Mohammad says

Dear Steve

One of the nice studies that has been well reported and even used by many authors including the bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell's in his book ‘Outliers’ is about the “Roseto Effect” this is based a published article on the “Am J Public Health. 1992 August; 82(8): 1089–1092”.
“In 1962, a small town in Eastern Pennsylvania was discovered to have a medical mystery: a mortality rate from heart disease that was less than half that of any other locale. That, in and of itself, is remarkable. But when noted alongside the fact that these townies smoked like chimneys, drank wine as though it flowed from faucets, worked in notoriously toxic environments, and ate cholesterol-laden and lard-fried foods…well…Roseto, PA raised a few eyebrows....”. This chapter is freely available on New York Times website. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11...

There are clear evidences that show, in order to provide an optimum care, not only you have to better understand the biochemical and biological processes in a body but also its interaction within its own environment. BioElectroMechanics is certainly the way forward and the advances in nanotechnology and subsequent miniaturization will play a big role to help us design instruments that will allow us to identify “Roseto Effects”.

One other person I recommend is Dr Mahi Lohi at University of Westminster who is already involved in another FP7 in application of BioElectronic in Parkinson disease with 12 other partners. If you like let me know and I can send her an e-mail and introduce you.

Re: Doesn’t Smell Right to Me

which one is a reliable. maybe a hint or idea. but still need to confirm by doing other test.

Re: Turning Out The Lights: ProQuo – Venture Capital Dispatch – WSJ

The main purpose of bankruptcy laws is to give people hopelessly overburdened with debt a chapter 7 bankruptcy financial fresh start. The size of the investment is as likely a measure of the company's risk of failure as its risk of success. Moreover, the medical device market has gotten no less competitive over the past two years and, with investment actually being squeezed or just put on hold due to concerns about the economy, pending healthcare reform legislation and other limiting factors, it has caused more companies to cross the line at which they simply do not have the funds to operate anymore.

Re: So Doctors Are Using Social Media

I can say doctors Use Social Media to Collaborate online. When the context is clear, the term is often shortened to "wireless". Wireless communication is generally considered to be a branch of telecommunications.
